What is the difference between a Licensed Insolvency Trustee and a Debt Advisor/Credit Counsellor?

What sets Licensed Insolvency Trustee apart from other service providers.

At Boale, Wood & Company Ltd., our professionals have over 100 years of experience in assisting consumers and corporations with dealing with debt and making a fresh start.

Our LITs are all members of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (“CAIRP”) and hold the Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (“CIRP”) designation.

Credit counsellors and/or debt advisors hold no such designation and do not have the qualifications or education to provide you with professional insolvency advice on how to deal with your debt.

Licensed by the Federal Government of Canada

All LITs are licensed by the Canadian Federal Government through the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (“OSB”).  Our conduct is regulated by strict rules and code of ethics by both our professional association, CAIRP, and the OSB. The LITs at Boale, Wood and Company Ltd. all hold a valid license and are in good standing with CAIRP.

Credit counsellors and/or debt advisors are not licensed by the OSB and have no ability to file a proposal or a bankruptcy.  Only an LIT has the ability to do so.

Our education and regulatory oversight provides you with assurances that the person you are working with to help you with your finances is providing you with the best advice possible.
